Odeon

Opened in 1936, Chester's Odeon Cinema differs from others of the period. Here, the Odeon 'house-style' cream and black tiled facade, was rejected in favour of hand-made pink brick, so that this landmark building blended with the historic character of the city.
In all other respects the building is recognisably 'Odeon', designed in the Art Deco style by Harry Weedon, the company's architect. ![]()
Although the distinctive 1930s red neon signage on the tower has now been replaced, both exterior and interior retain many original features, especially the foyer with Art Deco staircases. The main audItorium has been sub-divided, but the lower cinema still has something of its original character.
