Rufus Court

Until Rufus Court was built in 1991, this site was a derelict backland behind Northgate Street. A number of important 18th and 19th century buildings were empty and derelict, including houses on the City Wall.

The development of Rufus Court by the Thompson Cox Partnership, has created an intimate courtyard, with shops, cafes, offices, a wine bar and flats. The listed buildings have been restored and new buildings provide units on two levels, reflecting Chester's historic Rows. ![]()
The award-winning scheme was promoted by Chester City Council's conservation programme and has won high acclaim for regenerating an undervalued area within the historic city, through creative intervention and small scale mixed development.
